Biography

Giovanna Lanza is an Italian mezzo soprano who is singing with Europe's major opera companies such as La Scala, Teatro de la Maestranza or Bilbao ABAO.
 
Her curent and future engagements include Fidès in Prophete   and Quickly in Falstaff at at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Pepa in Goyescas at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
 
During the last years, she could establish herself in roles such as Carmen, Dalila in Samson et Dalila, Federica in Luisa Miller, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Frugola in Il Tabarro, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Bersi in Andrea Chenier, Emilia in Otello, Fenena in Nabucco, Seconda Corifea in Assassinio nella cattedrale, Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos, Rosina in Barbiere di Siviglia und in Romeo et Juliette von Berlioz at Europe's important opera houses - among them Sevilla, Bilbao, Toulon, Turin, Triest, Palermo, Rome, Bari, Verona and Brescia.
 
Other venues where she has performed include the Macerata Festival, the Pafos Aphrodite Festival and Lisbon's Gulbenkian Concert Hall. Also she sang Rigoletto with La Scala in Tokyo, Suzuki in Madame Butterfly at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Larina in Eugene Onegin at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and Enrichetta di Francia in I puritani in Bilbao.
 
She is also frequently singing modern music such as the role of Miriam in Lo stesso mare by Fabio Vacchi at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
Among the many famous conductors she has worked with are Nello Santi, Donato Renzetti, Giuliano Carella, Alberto Zedda, Gustavo Dudamel, Gianandrea Noseda, John Axelrod, Jordi Bernacer, Alberto Veronesi, Antonello Allemandi, Pinchas Steinberg, Ralf Weikert, Will Humburg, Ottavio Dantone, Josè Miguel Perez Sierra, Pedro Halffter and Jan Latham-Koenig. She has also worked with important stage directors such as Pier Luigi Pizzi, Paul Curran, Giulio Ciabatti, Henning Brockaus, Damiano Michieletto, Pippo Delbono, Ulderico Manani, Federico Tiezzi, Antonio Calenda, Nicolas Joel, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Giovanni Scandella and Davide Livermore.
 
On the concert platform, her repertoire includes Messa da Requiem (Verdi), Stabat Mater and Salve Regina (Pergolesi), Stabat Mater (Vivaldi), Requiem (Mozart), Stabat Mater (Rossini), Missa di Santa Cecilia (Nunes Garcia), Gloria and Nisi Dominus (Vivaldi), Giunone (Rossini), Les Nuits d’été (Berlioz), Siete Canciones Populares and El Amor Brujo (De Falla), Winterreise, Das Lied von der Erde and the Wesendonck-Lieder.
