Biography

Born in Gijón (Spain), tenor Alejandro Roy studied in Florence with the great mezzo-soprano Fedora Barbieri.
 
Since his debut as Tonio in La fille du régiment at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, he has performed in some of the most relevant Spanish and European theaters. He began to act as a lyrical-light tenor with roles such as Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Elvino in La sonnambula, Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, etc. His voice began to develop and grow in size, density and squillo incorporating lyrical parts like Macduff in Macbeth, Don José in Carmen, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Calaf in Turandot, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Pollione in Norma and most recently made he made his debut as Turiddu and Canio in Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci on the same night.
 
In 2019 he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York with the role of Calaf (Turandot) in the production of Franco Zeffirelli.

Zedda and Lobgesang by Mendelssohn under the baton of Peter Maag.
 
In the field of Zarzuela and Spanish opera, he has performed titles such as Doña Francisquita, El gato montés, Luisa Fernanda, La Tabernera del Puerto, La Bruja, El huésped del sevillano, Los Gavilanes, La del Soto del Parral, La leyenda del beso, Marina, El dúo de La Africana, Curro Vargas.
He has performed under the baton of conductors such as Alberto Zedda, Marco Armiliato, Daniel Oren, Stefano Ranzani, Franz-Paul Decker, Peter Maag, Donato Renzetti, Pinchas Steinberg or Renato Palumbo; and has worked with stage directors such as Pier Luigi Pizzi, Daniele Abbado, Massimo Gasparon, Denis Krief, Emilio Sagi, Calixto Bieito, Hugo de Ana or Carlos Wagner.
 
In 2013 he joined the history of the Teatro de la Zarzuela starring in the first bis of the last 30 years. And in 2014 he was awarded in the 9th edition of the lyrical awards of the Campoamor theater, with the award for the best Spanish opera singer or zarzuela, by Curro Vargas in Curro Vargas of Chapí.
