Biography

Cassandra Lemoine made her Royal Danish Opera debut as Papagena in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in 2017 and her The Canadian-Portuguese soprano is a recent graduate of the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Opera, where she made her professional debut as Papagena in 2017. Cassandra will return to the Royal Danish Opera this season as Johanna in Stephen Sondheim’s musical drama thriller Sweeney Todd, which will be followed by her debut at The Danish National Opera, Den Jyske Opera,as Blonde in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
 
After completing her Bachelor’s in Music in Voice performance at the University of Victoria in Canada, Cassandra moved to continue her education in Copenhagen, where she has studied roles that have developed her voice as a high lyrical soprano. She has performed in staged productions such as Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and GretelDrusilla in Monteverdi’s L'incoronazione di Poppea, Eurydice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice, Dalinda in Handel’s Ariodante, Madame Herz in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor, The Vixen in Janáček's The Cunning Little VixenThe Princess and The Fire in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges, Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Pamina in Mozart‘s Die Zauberflöte, Oberto in Handel’s Alcina, Ophélie in Ambroise’s Hamlet, and Sophie in Strauss’ Den Rosenkavalier.

During her last year of studies at the academy, Cassandra had the opportunity to take leave to perform the iconic role of Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s musical The Phantom of the Opera at Det Ny Teater. She has appeared several summers in the Copenhagen Opera Festival after she sang a public masterclass with voice technician Gregory Lamar and has since been heard at the festival as Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, at Roskilde Festival with OperaRap: Opera Meets Rap, and most recently played Musetta in Natascha Metherell’s unique site-specific setting of Puccini’s La Bohème.
 
In Canada, Cassandra has sung Kuchtík in Dvorak’s Rusalka and Hanne in Lehar’s The Merry Widow at Opera Nuovain Edmonton, Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Cis in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring at Pacific Operain Victoria. In the UK, Cassandra sang Papagena in Die Zauberflöte and Hebe in Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes at Woodhouse Opera Festival. Cassandra sang Zabel in Alfredo Keil's Portuguese opera A Serrana at the Zezere Festival in Portugal. Cassandra made her American stage debut in 2018 as featured soloist with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem's Bach Festival in Pennsylvania, where she performed and recorded Bach’s B minor massCantata 21 'Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis' and Handel's 'Ode on St. Cecilia's Day' with Analekta Records
 
She is in high demand as a concert soloist for both Baroque music and contemporary music. Cassandra made her soloist debut with Concerto Copenhagen at Hindsgavl Festival with Bach's Wedding Cantata under direction of oboist Alfredo Bernardini, she has performed with Jordi Savall at the Næstved Early Music Festival and remains a regular soloist with Camerata Øresund led by violinist Peter Spissky. 
 
Cassandra has sung several premieres of newly written works. She sang The Poet in Son of Heaven by Moto Osada at the Vadstena Akadamien in Sweden and was the soprano soloist for Nu og Efter by Niels Rosing-Schow written for the 150th anniversary celebration of The Royal Danish Academy of Music under the direction of Michael Schønwandt. Cassandra will return next summer to Copenhagen Opera Festivalto play Tilde in the world premiere of Nordkraft, an opera by Signe Lykke based on the novel of the same name by Jakob Ejersbo.
