Biography

With her radiant stage presence and warm yet flexible timbre, rising star Anna Gillingham is in increasing demand internationally.
 
Anna looks forward to performances at the Luxembourg Philharmonie, Montepulciano Festival in 2019 and her house debut at Frankfurt in the 2020/21 season.
 
Anna’s critically acclaimed 2017/18 engagements include Melisande; the fiery title role in a Baroque Ariadne auf Naxos; and Gerechtigkeit in Mozart’s earliest opera, Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots with Musicus Concentus Wien, all of which took place at Theater an der Wien, where Anna was a member of the prestigious Jungesensemble.
 
Further recent highlights include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at the Opera di Firenze in a much revered production by Damiano Michieletto, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring at the inaugural Grange Festival, and performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Atheneaum in Bucharest. 
 
An outstanding graduate of the prestigious opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Anna made her international opera debut in 2015 as the Governess in Britten's The Turn of the Screw at the Opera di Firenze. Further engagements include 22 performances as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Theater Basel, Frasquita in Carmen with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and opera galas with the Nuremberg and Bilkent (Turkey) Symphony Orchestras. Recent concert highlights have included her debut as soprano soloist in the Brahms Requiem in Munich and in Bach’s Weinachtsoratorium at Gloucester Cathedral.
 
In recital, Anna has performed in many of London’s most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, LSO St. Luke’s and the Barbican, as well as at the Oxford Lieder, City of London and Cheltenham Festivals, and on In Tune for Radio 3 and for Classic FM. Anna gave her debut recital at the Warsaw Philharmonic with a recital inspired by the life and music of Pauline Viardot. Anna’s concert repertoire is vast, including works such as Mozart’s RequiemExsultate JubilateVespers, Bach’s Weinachtsoratorio & B Minor Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass & Creation, and the Fauré and Brahms Requiems.
 
A natural linguist, Anna speaks French, Italian and German. She achieved a double first at Queens' College, Cambridge University.
