Biography

The Danish tenor Anders Kampmann studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, where he received his Master of Music  degree.
 
He began his career singing as a baritone in roles such as Henrik in Maskerade by Carl Nielsen, Cascada in Die lustige Witwe by Franz Lehár and Lotario in Flavio by G. F. Händel, but soon reshaped his voice into a rich and sonorous tenor voice with a dark and velvety colour.
 
He has since sung roles such as Sándor Barinkay in Der Zigeunerbaron by Johann Strauss at Theater Magdeburg, Count René de la Rochefoucauld in Fête Galante by Poul Schierbeck at Danish National Opera, Canio in I Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo at Soholm Opera/ Copenhagen Opera Festival, Sylvester in the 2021 Kasper Holten production Den Glade Enke 2.0 with music by Franz Lehar at The Royal Opera House in Copenhagen and various roles in new operas such as Grænsemageren by Bo Gunge, Showstopper by Mathias Dyhr, Der Dichter und die Schauspielerin by Felix Tetz, Darwin by Niels Martinsen, Kommentarfeltet by Trygve Brøske and the jazz opera Dear Erich by Ted Rosenthal.
 
On the concert stages Anders has sung The Crucifixion by John Stainer, The Messiah by G. F. Händel, Die Schöpfung by Josef Haydn, Requiem by W. A. Mozart, Die Zauberflöte by W. A. Mozart, the title role in Farinelli by Emil Reesen as well as gala and social benefit concerts with  leading Danish orchestras.
 
In the 2022-2023 season Anders will sing Alfredo in La Traviata at the Dutch Touring Opera (Reisopera), Helge in Grænsemageren with Opera Paa Graensen as well as concert performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Cavaradossi in Tosca by Puccini, Don José in Carmen by Bizet, Mozart’s Requiem and Händel’s The Messiah.
 
Anders Kampmann is currently being funded by The Danish Arts Foundation’s Young Artist Elite program as one of 12 Danish artists working in different fields. He is studying the Jugendlicher Heldentenor fach with tenor and stage director Stig Andersen, actress Stine Schrøder and a team of coaches in Music, acting, language and performance.
