Biography

Merūnas Vitulskis is considered one of the most charismatic and versatile Lithuanian singers of his generation. He achieved his his vocal skills with Prof. Virgilijus Noreika, one of the most celebrated Lithuanian tenors and influential teachers, at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, where he obtained a B.Mus. in opera singing (2010). 

Mr. Vitulskis recent and upcoming engagements include Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at Lithuanian National Opera, Staatstheater Kassel and Opera North, Cavaradossi at Vilnius City Opera and Rodolfo, Lensky and Alfredo at Lithuanian National Opera.
 
He made his debut in the production of Terrence McNally’s play Master Class as Maria Callas’ student Tony, performing the Cavaradossi aria from Puccini’s Tosca (2007), directed by Gytis Padegimas at the Vilnius Small Theatre.  Afterwards he sang his first Nemorino/ L'elisir d'amore, Sir Hervey/Anna Bolena, Lensky/Onegin, Duca/Rigoletto, Alfredo/Traviata at the Lithuanian National Opera. He made his international operatic debut as Hervey in the production of Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena” at the Opera Festival Engadin “St. Moritz” in Switzerland. 
 
In the seasons after this he sang Alfredo in La Traviata in Bilbao Opera, at Estonia National Opera and at Lithuania National Opera, where he received excellent reviews.
 
After great response, he was invited to work with  stage director Robert Dornhelm in Austria at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival and debuted as Rodolfo in G. Puccini's La Bohéme with huge success. This did not go unnoticed in Austria where Stadttheater Klagenfurt invited him to sing Macduff in Verdi’s opera Macbeth. As a result, the tenor was invited to sing at Oper Graz and at Aalto Theater Essen as Rodolfo and Alfredo at Teatro Verdi Trieste.
 
Mr. Vitulskis has received major acknowledge in singing competitions, winning the 1st prize at the Stasys Baras Competition for Singers (2009), a diploma at the 19th international Societa Umanitaria Competition in Milan and the 1st prize at the Zenonas Paulauskas Competition for Young Singers.
