Biography

Basso, born in Piacenza, studied with Gabriella Ravazzi making his debut in 2001 as Pistola in Falstaff at the Laboratorio lirico Spazio Musica in Genoa and then perfecting himself with Vaglieri and Macripò. He also took part in master classes chaired by Enzo Dara, Daniela Dessì and Fabio Armiliato.
 
In nearest future he will perform Alfonso in Lucrezia Borgia in Piacenza, Zaccaria in Nabucco in Ravenna and Liegi, and the King in Aida at the Fenice Opera in Venice.
 
In recent seasons he has sung Falstaff  at the Teatro Regio di Parma within the Verdi Festival and in conjunction with the reopening of the Teatro Farnese (DVD); he made his debut in Andrea Chenier with the Verdi orchestra of Milan, Otello(Lodovico) at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice directed by Francesco Micheli and conducted by maestro Chung (DVD). He performed in Gianni Schicchi (Betto) at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In season 2012, he took part in the production of Don Giovanni (as cover of the Commendatore) staged at the Teatro alla Scala as the opening of the season with Carsen's direction and the direction of master Barenboim.
 
In 2004, he made his international debut playing the roles of Trombonok's Baron in the Viaggio a Reims and Lucio Silano in Veste (Mercadante) at the Wexford Opera Festival. He then made his debut at the Opèra de Nice in Dr. Granvil in Traviata under the direction of Marco Guidarini. In subsequent seasons he sang at the Comunale di Bologna in Traviata under the direction of maestro Daniele Gatti. He then took part in Peter Grimes in the Theaters of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara under the direction of Alistar Dawes and directed by Cesare Lievi.
 
The roles of Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Tom in Un ballo in maschera, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Uncle Bonzo in Madama Butterfly and Grand Priest in Nabucco debuted with excellent criticism. He sang in Traviata and the Gambler at the Teatro alla Scala with the direction of the masters Montanaro and Barenboim respectively, in Boris Godunov at the Teatro alla Fenice conducted by Inbal, Semyon Kotko at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno and again Traviata on the tour in Tokyo at the Teatro Regio in Turin.
 
He also has performed many roles, such as Colline (La boheme), Pedone (Wally), Rocheford (Anna Bolena), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Oroveso (Norma), Don Basisio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Calatrava (La forza del destino), Grenvil (La traviata), Duca Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia) in many Italian theatres and all over the world, including Teatro Municipal of São Paulo in Brazil.
