Biography

Danish bass Nicolai Elsberg holds a Bachelor in jazz and pop music from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen (2014). Back then he was a part of the critically acclaimed band, Spillemændene and collaborated with the world famous Indie group, Efterklang. 
 
Since 2016, he has been studying classical singing at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Susanna Eken as main teacher, where he began his Master studies in the summer of 2019.
 
In the summer of 2019 Elsberg was invited for the Vocal Residency at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. In August 2019, Elsberg was singing the role of Commendatore in a new interpretation of Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Copenhagen Opera Festival, where he is also singing Colline in Puccini's La Bohème this November and December. Elsberg will have his debut at The Royal Danish Theater as Plutone in Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo in March 2020 under conductor Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Concerto Copenhagen. 
 
In 2020 Elsberg has his role debut as Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. 
 
Elsberg‘s rich sonorous voice has also caught the attention of contemporary composers such as Karsten Fundal and Rasmus Zwicki, who has written respectively an opera and an oratorio specifically for Elsbergs rare Lyricher/Dramaticher Seriöser Bass.
