Biography

Among Angelo Veccia past and future engagements, we can mention La Traviata (Germont) in Bologna, Macbeth(title role) in Pavia, Como, Brescia and Cremona (G. Gelmetti conducting), Palla de’ Mozzi (title role) in Cagliari (opening season), La Bohème (Marcello) in Las Palmas and Otello (Iago) in Bologna.
 
Born in Rome, Angelo Veccia studied in the Academy of St. Cecilia and, after winning the Battistini Competition in 1983 and in 1984, in the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. After his debut in Italy as Colline in La Bohème and after some roles as a bass in the United States, he had his debut as a baritone in the role of Silvio in Pagliacci by Leoncavallo in 1988.
 
He began a career which brought him to sing in many Italian theaters such as Teatro alla Scala di Milano (Iphigénie en Tauride, R.Muti conducting, Madama Butterfly, under the baton of R. Chailly, Lucia di Lammermoor, L’Assassinio nella cattedrale, Gianni Schicchi, Teneke of F. Vacchi, Adriana Lecouvreur, Turandot), Arena di Verona (La Bohème, Pagliacci), Bologna (Madama Butterfly, Macbeth, Tosca), Roma (Il barbiere di Siviglia, Amica, Il Trovatore), Firenze (Turandot under Z.Mehta, Il barbiere di Siviglia), Napoli (La Bohème, Tosca, Cavalleria rusticana), Venezia (La Bohème, L’Africaine, Tosca), Cagliari (Aida, Tosca, Macbeth), Trieste (Ernani, La Traviata, Macbeth, Tosca), Torino (La Traviata, Oedipus Rex and Cavalleria rusticana), and Genova (Tosca and Aida).
 
He also sung in very important international houses such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Las Palmas, Lyon, Bruxelles, Nederlande Oper, Zurich, San Gallen, Savonlinna, Aix-en-Provence, Montecarlo, Sao Paolo, and Tokio.
 
He collaborated, among others, with conductors such as A. Battistoni, G. Bisanti, S. Byckov, R. Chailly, A. Fischer, D. Gatti, V. Gergiev, Z. Mehta, R. Muti, D. Oren, N. Santi, G. Sinopoli, M. Viotti and directors such as H. de Ana, G. Montaldo L. Ronconi, B. Wilson and Z. Yimou.
