Biography

Born in Perugia. Graduated in Political Science. She studied in Florence and took her singing diploma in 1996. In the same year she made her debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, in London.
 
In 1996 she won the 1st prize at the V. Bucchi Competition of Rome, on 20th century music. After winning the Concorso A. Belli in 1997, she made her debut in Spoleto as Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito.
 
Since then her career has taken her to major theatres in Italy and throughout the world including: Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Rossini Opera Festival, San Carlo in Naples, Palermo Teatro Massimo, Opera in Rome, Teatro Regio in Turin, La Fenice in Venice; Opéra de Paris, Theatre du Chatelet, Theatre de La Monnaie, Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatre Liceu in Barcelone, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Glyndebourne Festival, Salzburg Festival.
 
Her wide repertoire goes from baroque music (Monteverdi, Händel, Pergolesi, Vivaldi) to the principal Mozart roles for mezzo soprano to Italian bel canto (Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi) as well as romantic music (Gounod, Massenet, Bizet, Berlioz, Weber) and 20th Century music (Ravel's L’Enfant et les sortilèges, l'Heure Espagnole, Poulenc, Berg, De Falla). In 2017 she debuted as Carmen at La Fenice in Venise conducted by Myung-Whun Chung and as Charlotte in Werther in Palermo Teatro Massimo. After this important debut she was invited to sing Carmen in Florence in 2018 and 2019 seasons and she will perform again the role in Tokyo and Venice in 2020.
 
She has been also invited in many concert halls such as Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Center in London, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, NHK Concert Hall inTokyo.
 
She has worked with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Yvor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Bruno Campanella, Myung-Whun Chung, Ottavio Dantone, Zubin Mehta, John Eliot Gardiner, Gianluigi Gelmetti, James Conlon, Réné Jacobs, Marc Minkowski, Christophe Rousset, Trevor Pinnock, Jeffrey Tate.
 
Comparato has recorded opera and concerts for some of the most important labels, such as: Verdi's Aroldo for Philips, Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans, Orlando finto pazzo, Armida (for Naive) and Giustino (for Virgin Classics), Weber’s Oberon (for Decca), Terradella's Artaserse (for Harmonia Mundi), Fedora and La finta semplice in DVD (for Deutsche Grammophon), Puccini's Gianni Schicchi in DVD with R. Chailly (for Concertgebouw), Le nozze di Figaro with Z. Mehta in DVD (for TDK), Pergolesi's Adriano in Siria and Prigionier superbo (for Unitel classica), Solo album of Cantate and Arie by the famous castrato Girolamo Crescentini (for Tactus), Solo album of Mélodies by the famous diva Pauline Viardot (for Brilliant), Solo album of Songs of Federico Garcia Lorca with guitar (for Musica Novantiqua), Rossini's Zelmira (for Naxos).
