Yana Kleyn was born in Moscow where and was educated as a pianist at the Russian Music Academy Gnesins in Moscow. In 2006, she entered the Gnesins as a singer and in 2012 she finished her master degree from The Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Denmark, where she also lives today.
Future engagements include debut as Cio-Cio San at the Immling Festival, Germany, Nella in Gianni Schicchi at Copenhagen Opera Festival, Lisa in Queen of Spades at Royal Opera Stockholm, Tosca in Denmark and Verdi Requiem with Copenhagen Phil.
In recent seasons she has appeared at Stockholm Royal Opera singing Mim with José Cura as stage director, Michaëla, Liù and Donna Anna; Mimì at Oper Köln, Desdemona at the Savonlinna Festival and Mimí at Opéra de Metz Métropole marking her debut in France, Rachel in F. Halévy’s “La Juive” in Konstanz Germany, Mussorgsky’s “Songs and dances of Death” at Stockholm Concert Hall and the “Schubertiade” in Roskilde and Michäela at Opera Hedeland in Denmark and Mimì at Copenhagen Opera Festival.
In the 2014/15 season she had her role debut as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in Stockholm and Mimì at Danish National Opera and as Liù in Kassel. First part of 2015 brought her debut as Eurydice in Orphée et Eurydice in Teatro Massimo di Palermo and Ms. Jessel in Britten’s Turn of the Screw in Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
In 2012/13, she sang Liù in Turandot with Nina Stemme as Turandot, Michaëla in Carmen and Leonora in Il trovatore at the Royal Opera Stockholm and Gala Concerts at Opera on Skäret Festival all in Sweden. Britten’s War Requiem with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and Copenhagen Philharmonic and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with Malmö Symphony Orchestra were among her orchestra engagements that season.
Her engagements in 2010/11 marked her international debut as Mimì at Opera på Skäret Festival in Sweden, and A. Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder with Malmö Opera Orchestra. In 2011/12 season, she performed Michaëlain G. Bizet’s Carmen at Opera på Skäret as well as LeonorainTrovatore at the Danish National Opera. Furthermore, she sang Mozart arias with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and opera gala concert in Vilnius, Lithuania.
