Biography

Johanna Nylund (b. 1992) is a finnish soprano living in Copenhagen. She is finishing her studies in the Soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
 
In the summer 2020 she debuted as Gilda in a reduced version of Rigoletto at Opera Hedeland in Denmark and sang Nella in Gianni Schicchi at Copenhagen Opera Festival in 2021.
 
Nylund has also been a part of several new music productions. She sang the role of Dalloway in Kirsten Milenko’s opera Dalloway (2020) in its first public performance at Pulsar festival 2020 in Copenhagen. Among others, she has sung The Insomniac in Tze Yeung Ho's chamber opera Hvorfor Pusen? and the role of Virginia Woolf in Mathias Vestergård’s opera Titanic.
 
Nylund has performed with symphony and chamber orchestras in Denmark and Finland, including Odense Symphony Orchestra and Århus Sinfonietta. She was a soloist in two Opera Gala-concerts with Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra in the USA after winning The Bel Canto Institute Orchestral Performance Award 2018 at the Bel Canto Institute’s summer program in Florence.
 
Nylund has sung soloist parts with different ensembles and choirs with repertoire such as Messiah by G.F. Händel, The Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach and Reformationskantate by C.E.F. Weyse. In July 2019 Nylund received a 3rd prize in Kangasniemi singing competition.
 
Nylund performs lied-repertoire as part of Duo Newbrook with pianist Johannes Stenberg Brooks. They received 3rd prize at the international Copenhagen Lied-Duo Competition in October 2019.
 
Nylund studied her Bachelor degree in Finland at Savonia University of Applied Sciences. She finished her Master's degree in singing at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in June 2019. Nylund has received support for her studies from Den Bøhmske Fond, Margrethe Axelsens Fond and Augustinus Fonden.
