Biography

In the 2014/15 season Suren Maksutov will make his debut in France at the Opéra de Angers et Nantes in Tchaikovsky´s Eugene Onegin as Lensky and at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Rachmaninov´s Aleko and Francesca da Rimini. He also will sing Alfredo in La traviata at the Michailovsky Theater. At the beginning of October he gave guest performances as Alfredo in at the Bolshoi Theater.
 
From 2014 is a guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre.
In 2012 Suren Maksutov joined the Mikhailovsky Opera Company, where he currently sings Alfredo in La Traviata and Count Vaudémont in Iolanta which he also sings at the Bolschoi Theatre. Due to his success his contract at the Mikhailovsky Opera Company has been prolonged for two more years and he has performed the tenor part in Rachmaninov´s The bells at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the musical direction of Tomas Netopil.
 
Before that the tenor was soloist at the National Opera Kiev and the National Philharmonic Orchestra. During guest performances in April 2011 he sang Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème in Denmark. His repertoire includes Lensky in Eugene Onegin, Vakula in Cherevicki, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Alfredo in La Traviata and Rodolfo in La Bohème.
 
He sang with conductors such as Vladimir Spivakov, Vladimir Jurowski, Thomas Netopil, Nicholay Dyadyura and  at the side of famous singers such as Neil Shicoff and Elena Obraztsova among others. Furthermore he worked with stage directors like Jürgen Flimm (Manon Lescaut) and Willy Decker (Billy Budd).
 
In spite of very strong competitors tenor Suren Maksutov became semi-finalist of the Operalia  Competition Moscow 2011. The beauty of his voice and the safety of his high notes enthused Placido Domingo and the international jury as well as the audience.
 
2003 he finished his studies as naval officer and began to study singing at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy with Gennady Kabka in Kiev in 2004, where he received the diploma in 2010.
